Rina weds Robert - Pepper Tree Nursery - Kauaeranga Valley

Rina and Robert got married on Saturday 30th October 2010 at the Pepper Tree Nursery in the beautiful Kauaeranga Valley near Thames. It turned out to be a gorgeous day after a few early morning showers. Below are a few moments from their special day.

At around 2PM, we travelled up to Kauaeranga Valley to capture a few details at the reception marquee.

I must admit, this is one of the most colourful weddings I have been to...and I am sure you will agree.

We then made our way to the Pepper Tree Nursery that is just up the road from the Hall. And while the guests mingled and waited for the bride to arrive...

Kylie weds Rhys - Te Puru - Thames Coast

Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you couldn’t miss yesterday's date. It was 10.10.10 – a rare day that’s special to everyone simply because of its numbers and occurrence. There are reports that astronomers have predicted the day to be lucky, especially for those who were born yesterday.
But it was also special to one happy couple - Kylie and Rhys, who got married at Te Puru on the Coromandel Peninsula. Surrounded by close friends and family, they got married under this enormous Pohutukawa tree at the Te Puru domain. Kylie grew up in the area and remembers playing on the tree as a child. So when she requested to have some photos taken on top of the tree, I wasn't surprised! I would have done the same!

Wedding Photography - Pauanui - Kate and Phillip

Kate and Phillip got married on 10th April at Puka Park Resort in Pauanui. It was an intimate celebration with close family in attendance.

Wedding Photography - Windy Ridge, Ohaupo - Jamie & Caleb

On Saturday 3rd April, we drove down to Windy Ridge, Ohaupo, to photograph Jamie and Caleb's wedding. We started off with Jamie and her bridesmaids getting ready at the Hamilton Airport Inn.

While we waited for the bride-to-be to arrive, we took the chance to photograph her beautiful wedding gown...

and her lovely shoes!

I was wondering what to say to this little fella to make him smile...sometimes my funny faces help!

We left Jamie to get ready and headed off to Windy Ridge, Ohaupo to meet up with the boys. While we waited for them to arrive, we got a few details at the venue.

Wedding Photography - Matamata - Thea and William - 13 March 2010

So for the 3rd weekend in a row, we drove down to Matamata. The good thing was that we took a different route all three times and really got to see our beautiful countryside.

And this time it was to document Thea and William's wedding. Having met them the previous week, we started with the Bride-to-be and their little boy, Lucas.

BLING! Their rings on their son Lucas' tractor. Guess what they do for a living?

BLING!!!

BLING, BLING, BLING!!!! Don't you just love empty bottles, all neatly lined up. From last night or last week...not so sure! And who cares...!

Just loved the colour theme at their wedding! Everything was well thought about!

Lucas had matching shoes and so did William! Although he wanted to change into his Ben10 socks later! No not William, Lucas!

The finishing touches...(not sure if you noticed what's inThea's right eye?) and we were off to catch up with William and the groomsmen at Te Poi Church.

BLING!!!!! One for the road! Just had to get another shot.

Oooooh! The boys were so smart and sooooo serious!

Photobooth at Ripeka and Whare's Wedding Reception

We travelled up to beautiful Matarangi to set up our photobooth at Ripeka and Whare's wedding reception which was held at Omara's Restaurant. It was a great opportunity to photograph the guests at the reception while the bridal party were out on the beach having their photos taken. We managed to get a few photos of the newly wedded couple and their bridal party before they sat down for the entrees and speeches.

Wedding Photography - Julia and Torsten - Sailor's Grave, New Zealand

Wow, what a day it has been so far! Let's me start from the beginning.

I received an email from Julia on the 12 of February asking if we were available to photograph their wedding on the 3rd of March. As usual we enquired about what her plans were, the venue, number of guests, etc. etc. Since Julia and Torsten were travelling from Germany, they were not sure where they wanted to get married. All she could tell me was that it will take place at a beach (Pauanui or Tairua), there are no guests, and "It will be pure and simple, but romantic…"

Now here was I, being very professional, and stressing about what they would look for in their photos. And not having met them before (we met for the first time at Sailor's Grave, 30 minutes before the ceremony!!) didn't help the situation.

But now that my job is finished, yes, it was pure, simple and very romantic and just crazy fun! Who would have thought that I'd end up with soaking wet shoes and my trousers wet below the knees. (You two were supposed to warn me!!) And you can tell from the photos, we all had a lovely morning and a beautiful wedding ceremony.

Julia and Torsten - hope you have a lovely time here in NZ and we wish you all the very best in life!

Now that's typical NZ, jandals, campavan, long drop and a recycle bin! Wot? You thought I'd say, bush, blue sky and white clouds?

This for me, was the sign of things to come...!

Wooden rings! The originals are back home - made from ivory of the woolly mammoth, bound to attract the attention of MAF!

Wedding Photography - Emma and Tim - Little Bay, Coromandel Peninsula

What more could we wish for on Saturday 20th of February 2010! A beautiful bride, a doting groom and perfect weather at Little Bay - a quiet, beautiful sandy beach north of Coromandel town.

We met Tim and the boys as they were getting ready not too far away from the beach. I almost didn't recognize Tim, he looked so smart in his white shirt! The only time we met him before, he had his sunglasses on! (I loved the sign on the letter box!)

Tim's brother and bestman was at hand to assist!

Now, knotting a tie is another matter!

Tim had matching Paua cuff links! Nice touch for a New Zealand beach wedding!

A little while later, we drove off to meet with Emma, at her parents home. Now that's what we call a bridal house...guests everywhere, makeup being put on, hair being curled, last minute showers - organised chaos! But then, that's what a wedding is all about - the stress and the fun!!

Even the picture on the wall was in awe!

Another short drive, and we caught up again with the boys at the ceremony venue, Little Bay!

And finally...the bride arrives!

The “Let's Do This!” Cycle Tour – Wanaka to Thames – 15-27 Feb 2010

I know someone who is going to give a lot and hurt even more! On Monday, 15th February 2010, Dave sets off on his incredible cycle ride from Wanaka (yes the same one in the South Island!!) to Thames (yes the same one in the North Island) in February to raise funds for Bosty - the Boston Rohrlach Trust.

I managed to peel Dave away from the million things that were on his mind before he left for Wanaka two days ago, for a photo in his riding gear.

Saturday 30th January 2010...what started off as a beautiful day in Thames, progressively got overcast while we were on our way to Shakespeare Cliff for Meg and Jared's Big Day! By the time we got there, it was raining. But let's talk about what we were there for...

As discussed, we met Jared and the boys at the ceremony venue and were still hopeful about the weather. By 3.30PM, we were told the venue was shifted to Salt restaurant in Whitianga, as it was pouring down! While there was no let up in the rain (for the next few days!) everyone decided to have a good time anyway.

We wanted to add a new dimension to our wedding services and offered to set up a 'Photobooth' at the restaurant while guests waited for or were having their meal. Guess there was a lot of LOVE around!! Enjoy!

What a gorgeous day and what a beautiful bride! Sarah married Jeremy on 7th November at the lovely Hahei Reserve overlooking Cathedral Cove. One could not ask for a better backdrop on such a beautiful day.
When we got there, we were shocked to see so many tourists! Parking was a nightmare. Roadworks on the approach road didn't help! But at the end of the day everything passed off smoothly!

Thames Pony Club - Twilight Showjumping

Equus ferus caballus! What? What's that? That's the scientific name for a horse! And boy! Do they live up to their big name! They are wonderful creatures, big show offs and lovely pets. I am sure there are many other words used to describe equine-related concepts, covering everything from anatomy to life stages, size, colors, markings, breeds, locomotion, and behavior. But that's not what this blog is about. It's about show jumping! Show jumping at the Thames Pony Club.
I know for a fact I was not very welcome there... and when a horse doesn't like you, he let's you know straight up. But I was there as a friend and I knew I meant no harm. Below are a few of my favourites. More photos available here.

Rachael & Farmer Engagement Photoshoot

Our friends, Rachael and Farmer got engaged a few weeks ago. We had been waiting for good weather, and it finally came. So off we went, Rachael, Farmer, Hershey and the latest addition to their home, little Boo!

We met in Thames on Sunday for their engagement photos. Thames has a lot of heritage buildings and we decided to start shooting against this beautiful brick building just opposite our gallery on Pollen Street.

From there, we moved to the Thames School of Mines, and that's where we met little Boo! What a bundle of joy! We could hear her from a distance and later realised she had jumped out of the car. Now that's a big drop for her size. Look at her, isn't she gorgeous!

The new Kopu Bridge.

It's finally begun! Work has commenced on the construction of the new Kopu Bridge. The NZTA is replacing the old Kopu Bridge with a two lane bridge that will be built upstream from the existing bridge. The bridge built between 1927 - 28, does not have the capacity to cope with the jump in seasonal traffic during holidays resulting in hour long traffic delays. The new bridge will span 587 metres compared to the 463 metres of the existing bridge. The Kopu Bridge is one of the main links between the Hauraki Plains and the Coromandel Peninsula.

How time flies!

In just over a month and a half, we will be off to photograph Sarah and Jeremy's wedding at Hahei Beach, on the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula, our first wedding for this summer.

Sarah was a bridesmaid at Rosanna and Clarkie's wedding in February this year. And now, it's her turn to exchange rings! I am sure she is looking forward to it as much as we are. And while they are getting their details ready, we at sansimages have been busy getting ready for another beautiful summer here on the Coromandel, and plenty of weddings to document! Tui's in town!

For the past two years that I have been in New Zealand, I've always wanted to photograph a Tui and spent many days last spring, looking for one that would pose for me. They all seemed shy and always flew away when ever I got within ten metres of them.

Spring is here again, and so are the Kowhai, and the honey in their flowers have attracted the Tuis. And right at our doorstep. And luckily this fellow was happy to pose for me while feasting.

Elisabeth Cornforth had booked in to get some photos with her 8 month old baby - Eleanor. I am quite grateful she choose me to document this stage of her life. It is a lovely day - spring is in the air. Unfortunately with a funeral at the nearby church, parking was a nightmare. Well, they finally found a parking spot a few doors down from our studio. After a cuppa and a breather, we were all set to go. Luckily, Eleanor was not too flustered with the parking fiasco...and we had a lovely session. The images turned out beautiful - Eleanor's mum and granma had a tough time choosing. A sneek peek follows...

Thames - Dawn of a new day!

I took this photograph on the 18th of January 2009. I woke up before sunrise and opened the curtains in our bedroom. Although the sun was not up, I saw the clouds in the sky and knew this was my lucky day. I hurried out of bed, grabbed my camera, tripod and shutter release and drove as quickly as possible (without breaking the 50KMPH speed limit on Pollen Street) to the Thames Monument that overlooks the town. What a beautiful sight!
